Women's Tennis Hosts Hartford on Thursday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team will host Hartford on Thursday, April 17 at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The first serve is set for 3:30pm.

Fairfield (9-8; 6-1 MAAC) vs. Hartford: Thursday's match will be the first time the two programs will meet for dual play since last year's match on April 17. In that contest, Fairfield defeated Hartford, 6-1, at the Hartford Tennis Courts in Hartford, Conn.

A Look at the Hawks: Hartford is 2-10 on the season. The Hawks have posted victories over Wagner and American International College. In their fall season, Hartford competed in one tournament, the Quinnipiac Invite.

Senior Sharissa Ryan picked up a win at No. 2 singles by defeating the Pioneers' Gabriela Kaldan, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, junior Allison Radde outlasted the Sacred Heart's Lindsey Post, 6-0, 6-7(6), 14-12.

Weekly Winner: Senior Sharissa Ryan was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week after posted three singles and two doubles victories in the Stags' three matches against Manhattan, Siena, and Sacred Heart this past week. So far this season, Ryan is 11-8 in singles play and 15-11 in doubles. The 2012 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Performer has collected 131 combined victories over her last four seasons, good for fourth all-time at Fairfield. This is Ryan's fourth time earning MAAC Weekly honors throughout her career and her second this season.

Pardon Our Appearance: Stags fans will be noticing some changes over the next few weeks to the athletic complex. The first phase of construction on the Rafferty Stadium project has gotten underway. Due to the construction, the Walsh Athletic Center Parking Lot will be closed. Fans are asked to utilize the parking lots at Dolan Commons, Fairfield Prep, the rear of Alumni Hall, and Jogues Hall when they visit Stags Country for a game.

Looking Ahead: Fairfield will compete in their last MAAC contest at home on Senior Day. The Stags will host St. Peter's on April 19 on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts at 11am. Prior to the match, the Stags will recognize the contributions of their seniors.
