Monica Yajima Named MAAC Player of the Week

Women's Tennis Shuts Down Siena 7-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team won their fifth straight match and improved to 6-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a 7-0 victory over Siena College this afternoon.

The Stags had a strong showing in singles play, taking all six matches. Senior Monica Yajima downed Ali Garrity, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Senior Sharissa Ryan, the reigning ECAC and MAAC Player of the Week, posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Carly Holloway at No. 2 singles. At the third spot, Allison Radde picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Mitsuki Fukamachi.

At No. 4 singles, Carolina Koladzyn had a 7-5, 6-3 win over Jessica Macaluso. At No. 5 singles, Kaila Nelson edged Cassandra Braz, 6-4, 6-3. Rounding out singles play, was Karen McKeough who posted a 6-2, 7-5 win over Erika Reagan.

Fairfield took two out of three doubles matches to secure the point. At No. 2 doubles, Ryan and Radde downed Macaluso and Braz, 8-1. McKeough and Nelson secured the point with an 8-5 win over Holloway and Reagan at third doubles. The lone Siena win of the day came at No. 1 doubles where Garrity and Fukamachi nipped Yajima and Koladzyn, 8-5.

The Stags are back in action on Monday, April 14 at Sacred Heart.
