Women's Lacrosse Travels to Rutgers on Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team will travel to Rutgers on Saturday, February 22 at the Stadium Complex. The game is set for 1pm.
 
Fairfield vs. Rutgers: The Stags last met the Scarlet Knights on February 23, 2013 in New Jersey where Fairfield fell, 5-3. Saturday's game with be the third meeting between the teams since 2012.
 
A Look at the Scarlet Knights: Rutgers is 1-0 on the season so far. The Scarlet Knights picked up a 6-3 victory over Manhattan on February 18. Rutgers returns standouts Katrina Martinelli and Megan Clements for their final campaign. Last season, Martinelli scored 35 goals with 10 assists for a total of 45 points while Clements tallied 21 goals with eight assists to total 29 points.  So far this year, Martinelli and Jenny Vlahos are the Scarlet Knights' leading scorers, tallying two goals apiece. Goalkeepers Amanda Currell and Candice Dandridge split time in the net for Rutgers. Currell has tallied five saves with a save percentage of .833, while Dandridge has tallied two saves with a save percentage of .500.
 
Last Time Out: The Stags were edged by Hofstra University, 8-7, on February 19 at the James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y. Sophomore Colleen Reynolds scored twice for the Stags, who also received goals from Melanie Raso, Jenna Sloey, Addie Reilly, Julieanne Mascera, and Jamie Leone. Courtney Chmil and Leone had assists in the contest. Hofstra took an early lead only 35 seconds into the first half. The Pride maintained a lead over the Stags for the rest of the half, bringing a 5-2 advantage into halftime. In the second half, Fairfield battled back, tying the game at 7-7, with only 39 seconds left in regulation. Hofstra scored the final goal of the game with only 14 seconds left, making a 8-7 decision in favor of the Pride. Sophomore Chelsey Sidaras manned the net for the Stags, making six saves, while Hofstra's Kelsey Gregerson tallied seven. The Stags outshot the Pride, 24-22, and had a 9-8 advantage in draw controls.
 
Looking Ahead: Fairfield (0-1) will continue action on the road, stopping at Holy Cross on February 26 before returning home to host Lehigh on March 3.
