Men?s Swimming & Diving Finishes In Fifth At Terrier Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Fourteen Stags qualified to compete in the finals of their events as the Fairfield University men's swimming & diving team wrapped up the final day of the Terrier Invitational at Boston University's Competition Pool.

In the C-Final of the 200y backstroke event, Collin Hayes clocked a 2:02.57, to finish sixth in the final and 22nd overall while Kyle Lally posted a 2:08.38 to finish eighth in the final and 24th overall.

In the B-Final of the 200y breaststroke, Connor Daly posted a 2:11.98 to finish sixth in the final and 14th overall. In the C-final of the event, Kevin Kett recorded a 2:22.44 to place 24th and finish eighth in the final.  

In the B-Final of the 1650y freestyle, Andrew Robinson clocked a 16:32.70 to finish 11th overall and place third in the final. Jameson Duncan posted a 17:19.84 to finish seventh in the final and 15th overall. Junior Nick Cannone was the last to finish in the B-Final, clocking a 17:27.33, to take the 16th slot. In the C-Final, Pat Orkins recorded a 17:48.49 to finish 17th overall and first in the final.

Sophomore Daniel Pires qualified for both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the men. In the 1-meter event, Pires posted a 228.50 to finish seventh overall. On the 3-meter board, he recorded a 256.40 to place third. Senior Evan Barr had a final 3-meter score of 230.85 to finish fifth overall.  

In the 400y freestyle relay, the team of Scott McGinty, Andrew Tavcar, Jay Cook, and Hayes recorded a time of 3:14.95 to finish 13th overall while the team of Robinson, Duncan, Kett, and Robert Hansen followed in 14th place with a time of 3:27.22.

Fairfield (2-3; 0-21 MAAC) has now concluded their 2014 campaign. The Stags will make a splash in the winter of 2015 after returning from their training trip in Hawaii. 

 

Sunday's Preliminaries

Men's 200y Back: Rookie Collin Hayes qualified for the C-Final with a time of 2:04.49 and placed 24th overall. Kyle Lally clocked in next with a 2:10.54 to finish 26th overall and qualify for the C-Final.

Men's 100y Free: Sophomore Scott McGinty finished 30th overall, with a 48.42. Jay Cook clocked in next with a 48.93 while Andrew Tavcar followed with a 49.54. Collin Hayes posted a 52.15 while Robert Hansen recorded a time of 54.04.

Men's 200y Breast: Junior Connor Daly clocked a 2:10.94 to finish in 13th overall and qualify for the B-Final. Kevin Kett followed in 24th place with a time of 2:23.59, to qualify for the event's C-Final. 

Men's 200y Fly: Freshman Kyle Lally posted a 2:12.78 to finish in 30th overall.

Men's 1650y Free: Junior Andrew Robinson finished 11th overall, with a 16:32.70, to qualify for the B-Final in the event. Jameson Duncan and Nick Cannone followed in 15th and 16th respectively, with times of 17:19.84 and 17:27.33, to also qualify for the B-Final. In the C-Final, was Pat Orkins who clocked in at 17:48.49 to finish in 17th place.

Men's 1-Meter Diving: Sophomore Daniel Pires was the top finisher for Fairfield. Pires placed sixth overall with a score of 219.60, to qualify for the final round. Senior Evan Barr posted a 215.65 to finish ninth overall while Will Sullivan was close behind in 10th place with a 205.10. Rounding out the Stags' effort was rookie Benjamin Martin who finished in the 16th slot with a score of 115.50. 

Men's 3-Meter Diving: Sophomore Daniel Pires was the top finisher once again for Fairfield. Pires placed sixth overall with a score of 236.45, to qualify for the final round. Senior Evan Barr was close behind with a 210.10 to finish eighth overall and also qualify for the finals. Will Sullivan posted a 171.50, to place 11th, while rookie Benjamin Martin finished in the 15th slot with a score of 121.60.
