CHANDLER, Ariz. – Fairfield University field hockey's top offensive and defensive players Ann Burgoyne and Felicitas Heinen earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Mideast Region Team honors. Heinen was named to the All-Mideast Region First Team for the third consecutive year while Burgoyne was a first time All-Mideast Region Second Team selection. The 2014 Longstreth / NFHCA Division I All-Region Teams were selected by the region's head coaches.
Senior Heinen earned her third-straight NFHCA All-Mideast Region First Team selection after a tremendous final campaign for Fairfield. Heinen became the first Stag in program history to earn the America East Defensive Player of the Year award, which she paired with her third consecutive America East First Team accolade. She served as Fairfield's top defensive threat, tallying two defensives saves, but her versatility made her an equally strong threat on offense. Heinen had 20 points in her 19 appearances, in the form of seven goals and six assists. She tallied 54 shots, with 31 shots on goal, and a shot on goal percentage of .574. Heinen recorded one multi-goal game this year, scoring two goals against Villanova. She has nine game-winning goals to her credit, including two this season. Heinen was 3-4 on her penalty stroke attempts, converting 75 percent into goals. Twice this year, Heinen broke program records, to currently sit atop Fairfield's all-time career chart for goals (45) and points (112).
Burgoyne earned her first NFHCA All-Mideast Region Second Team selection after a remarkable sophomore campaign. She became the first Stag in program history to earn the America East Offensive Player of the Year award, which she paired with her first America East First Team accolade. Burgoyne was Fairfield's leading scorer, with 39 points in her 19 appearances in the form of 19 goals and one assist. She tallied 40 shots on goal and earned a shot on goal percentage of .800. Burgoyne recorded six multi-goal games and posted two hat tricks. She started in 18 games for the Stags and has three game-winning goals to her credit this season. Twice this year, Burgoyne broke program records, to currently sit atop Fairfield's all-time single-season chart for goals (19) and points (39). Burgoyne is currently ranked among the nation's statistical leaders in two categories. She is tied for fourth in goals per game (1.00) and 12th in points per game (2.05). Burgoyne also garnered America East Player of the Week honors four times this season.
The Fairfield University field hockey team finished the 2014 campaign with a 7-12 overall record and a 2-3 mark in conference play. The Stags advanced to the America East tournament for the third-straight year before falling to top-seeded, conference champion, No. 14 Albany in the semifinals.
