Daly Breaks Record As Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats Pace

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's swimming & diving defeated Pace University this afternoon at the RecPlex Pool. Junior Connor Daly broke a program record as the men posted a 156.5-54.5 victory over the Setters.

Daly posted two individual victories and broke one program record. Daly captured the 100m backstroke with a time of 59.98, breaking the previous program record of 1:01.55 set by Rob Willhoit on October 30, 2004. He also posted a winning time of 1:07.84 in the 100m breaststroke, for a personal best, and placed third in the 50m freestyle with a time of 25.61.

Junior Andrew Robinson and senior Jay Cook captured two individual victories apiece. Robinson captured the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:03.18 and posted a win in the 400m freestyle event with a personal best time of 4:20.08. Cook captured the 50m and 100m freestyle events. Cook clocked a 50m time of 25.23 and a 100m time of 55.74.    

Sophomore Scott McGinty and rookie Jameson Duncan each posted an individual win. McGinty captured the 100m butterfly when he recorded a 1:01.41 while Duncan captured the 800m freestyle when he clocked a 9:12.27, for a personal best.

In the 400m medley relay, the team of Duncan, Daly, McGinty, and Cook clocked a time of 4:09.07 to finish first. The 400m freestyle relay of Robinson, Cook, McGinty, and Andrew Tavcar earned first place points with a time of 3:48.80.

Fairfield took the top spot in both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Sophomore Daniel Pires captured the 3-meter event with a score of 274.20 while senior Evan Barr was the runner-up with a 243.83. Barr captured the 1-meter event with a 265.35 while Pires placed third with a 247.95. Will Sullivan placed third on the 3-meter event, posting a 198.75, and fourth on the 1-meter event, recording a 211.95. Rookie Benjamin Martin recorded a score of 162.90 on the 3-meter, for a personal best, and made a 142.88 1-meter mark.   

The Fairfield men's (2-3; 0-2 MAAC) team will close out their fall 2014 campaign this upcoming weekend. The team will travel to Boston, Mass. to compete in the Terrier Invitational on November 20-22.
