Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University field hockey team has a big weekend ahead, traveling to conference foe Maine on Friday, October 10 before returning home to host Harvard on Sunday, October 12. Friday's game is set for 3pm and Sunday's game will start at 1pm.

Fairfield (5-8; 0-1 AE) vs. Maine: The two teams met last on October 19, 2013 where the Stags fell to the Black Bears, 5-1, on University Field. Friday's game will be the 22nd meeting between the two programs since 1983.
A Look at the Black Bears: Maine is 6-6 on the season so far with a 1-0 mark in America East play. The Black Bears have posted victories over Central Michigan (4-0), Bryant (3-1), Quinnipiac (4-1), Vermont (5-1), Sacred Heart (3-1), and Dartmouth (5-2) and have fallen to Michigan State (5-4) in overtime, Stanford (1-0), Massachusetts (3-2) in overtime, Harvard (2-1), Hofstra (2-1), and Providence (3-2). So far this year, sophomore Danielle Aviani is the Black Bears' leading scorer, tallying nine goals with two assists. Goalkeepers Emma Cochran and Emily Corbet are charged with keeping the ball out of the net for Maine. This season, Cochran has tallied 23 saves with a save percentage of .742 while Corbet has totaled 26 saves with a save percentage of .650.
Fairfield vs. Harvard: The two teams met last on October 13, 2013 where the Stags fell to the Crimson, 4-3, in overtime on Jordan Field. Fairfield is 0-2 all-time against Harvard in a series that dates back to 1989. Sunday's game will be the 3rd meeting between the two programs and the first ever meeting at home on University Field.
A Look at the Crimson: Harvard is 6-4 on the season so far with a 1-2 mark in Ivy League play. The Crimson has posted victories over Bryant (3-2), Holy Cross (4-0), Maine (2-1), Vermont (2-1) in overtime, Yale (4-1), and UMass Lowell (6-0) and have fallen to Northeastern (1-0), Penn (4-1), Brown (4-3) in double overtime, and Boston University (3-1). Harvard returns standouts Marissa Balleza and Elizabeth Jacobson. Last season, Balleza scored 12 goals with four assists for a total of 28 points while Jacobson tallied six goals with four assists to total 16 points. So far this year, Balleza is the Crimson's leading scorer, tallying six goals and one assist. Goalkeepers Issy Davies and Olivia Startup have split time in the net for Harvard. This season, Davies has tallied 29 saves with a save percentage of .630 while Startup has tallied one save with a save percentage of 1.000.
Stags for a Cure: Sunday's contest will be Fairfield field hockey's annual Breast Cancer Awareness game. The Stags will be selling “Stags for a Cure” t-shirts for $15 apiece to raise money for breast cancer research. The team will continue selling the t-shirts in the Barone Campus Center for one week following Sunday's game. Last Time Out: The Stags defeated Lehigh, 4-0, on October 5 at University Field. Sophomore Ann Burgoyne tallied three out of four goals for Fairfield, who also received a goal from senior Emily Leo. Burgoyne put the Stags on the board early, scoring from the middle of the circle off a cross by Emily McCauley. A little under 10 minutes later, Burgoyne found the back of the net when she put back a rebound. Her final goal of the game came at 31:06. She scored after dribbling through three defenders to create a one-on-one situation with the goalie. The final goal of the game came from Leo, at 60:02, when she scored off a rebound from the right side of the net. Neither team was able to score again, sealing a 4-0 victory for the Stags.
National Notice: Entering the week, Fairfield is among the national statistical leaders. The Stags are tied for 19th overall in save percentage (.750). Individually, Ann Burgoyne is tied for fifth place in goals per game (1.000).
Weekly Winner: Sophomore Ann Burgoyne was named the America East Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week after scoring five goals in two games to help the Stags challenge conference foe New Hampshire and defeat Lehigh. Fairfield notched a 4-0 victory over the Mountain Hawks on October 5 after falling to New Hampshire, 3-2, on October 3. Burgoyne shared the title with Paula Heuser from No. 10 Albany. In the Stags' conference home opener against New Hampshire on October 3, Burgoyne scored both goals for the Stags. Against Lehigh, Burgoyne recorded her first career hat trick, scoring all but one goal for Fairfield, and tallied the game-winner. Burgoyne, the Stags' leading scorer, has 26 points in her 13 appearances in the form of 13 goals. She has tallied 24 shots on goal and earned a shot on goal percentage of .857.
Looking Ahead: After this weekend's contests, the Stags will continue their home stand. Fairfield will host America East opponents Albany, on October 18, and Vermont, on October 24, at University Field.
