Women's Tennis Closes Out Fall Season with NJIT Invitational

Women's Tennis Hits the Road this Weekend for Sain


FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. this weekend to compete in the Saint Joseph's Invitational on the SJU Tennis Complex and Finnesey Courts.

The Invitational will begin with doubles play at 1:30pm on Friday. Fairfield will compete in both doubles and singles against opponents from Delaware, Lafayette, Villanova, Saint Francis University, Temple, Saint Joseph's, and Loyola Maryland.

The Stags are 1-0, coming off a 7-0 victory over conference opponent Rider University on September 11.

Senior Monica Yajima defeated Alison Noll, 6-1, 6-2, and then teamed up with freshman Karen McKeough to defeat Rider duo Noll and Kerrin Toner, 8-5. Sharissa Ryan downed Michelle Caravaglio at the number two singles spot, 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 3 singles spot, rookie Kaila Nelson defeated Toner, 6-1, 6-0, in her collegiate debut. Freshman McKeough made her mark in the No. 4 singles spot as she beat Rider's Alexandria Extrjt, 6-0, 6-1. Holly Ream never gave up a game playing at No. 5 singles defeating Kim Leder. Ryan partnered with Nelson, at No. 2 doubles, to defeat Rider pair Carvaglio and Extrjt, 8-0. At the No. 3 spot, Fairfield sophomore duo Ream and Stephanie Ziegler never gave up a game against Rider duo Leonora Paul and Annette Frankowski. Rounding out singles play in the number six spot with a victory, was Ziegler.

After the Saint Joseph's Invitational, Fairfield returns to the courts in Cambridge, Mass. to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional on September 18-20.
