Five student-athletes from Fairfield men's and women's tennis were named ITA Scholar-Athletes as announced this week. Seniors Bjorn Merinder, R.J. Mirabile, Dennis Zlobinsky, and sophomores Ofir Solomon and
Holly Ream each earned the honor. Along with these athletes, the Fairfield Men's Tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the 2012-13 season.
After successful seasons for men's and women's tennis, with MAAC Championship appearances, these student-athletes have proven they are just as dedicated in the classroom as they are on the court.
Mirabile and Zlobinsky have now been named ITA Scholar-Athletes for three consecutive seasons while Merinder, an accounting major, is a first-time selection. All three were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team for the past two seasons.
Solomon, a business major, and Ream, a nursing major, earn their first appearances on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list.
The ITA All-Academic Team award recognizes a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.20. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, the student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at Fairfield for at least two semesters.
