FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team shut down the Siena Saints this afternoon in a 6-1 dual. The Stags improve to 10-7, 6-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as they have just one match to play before the postseason conference tournament.
Fairfield captured the doubles point to start the day with victories in the one and three spots. Duo
Monica Yajima and
Allison Radde continue their success at No. 1 doubles, by defeating Jessica Macaluso/Cassandra Braz, 8-2. The two are now 6-1 in the one spot and undefeated in MAAC play. Senior
Nikki Jackson and freshman
Maggie McLaughlin paired up for the first time together in the three spot, to come out on top against Brittany Filip and Erika Reagan, 8-4.
In singles play, the Stags took five of the six matches with McLaughlin in the six spot tallying her victory by default. In the one, three and five spot, Fairfield captured match points in two straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Yajima beat Filip, 6-3, 6-0, improving her win streak to seven straight matches. Radde now holds the second longest win streak for the Stags with four matches while Jackson continues her undefeated streak in conference singles. Junior
Victoria Pirrello rounded out the victories for Fairfield after edging Braz, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
The Stags (11-7, 6-1 MAAC) play just one last dual tomorrow afternoon against Stony Brook University on their home courts at 12pm. Fairfield will then take the week off from duals to prepare for the MAAC Championship Tournament which will be held once again in West Windsor, N.J. over April 27-28.
