HARTFORD, Conn. – The women's tennis team defeated Hartford University today on the road to improve to an overall record of 9-7, remaining 5-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.  Freshman Holly Ream tallied her first collegiate dual wins while classmate Maggie McLaughlin clinched the victory for the Stags.
 
McLaughlin and Ream paired up at No. 3 doubles to start the day, surrendering just one game to their opponents.  The freshman duo defeated Greenberg/Bennett, 8-1, while the duo of Yajima and Radde took their match, 8-4, in the one spot.  With the doubles point clinched, the match in the two spot between Jackson/Samson and Goldman/Galik, was abandoned.
 
Fairfield carried the momentum into singles play capturing five of the six matches.  Ream finished 2-0 in her first dual by shutting down familiar opponent Sarah Bennett, 6-0, 6-1.  In the two spot, Allison Radde increased her win streak to three matches by defeating Hannah Goldman, 6-2, 6-0. 
 
Freshman McLaughlin then clinched the match with her win in the four spot over Jessica Galik in two straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.  Following McLaughlin's finish, Monica Yajima increased her win streak to six, beating Katrina Zampas, 6-2, 7-5.  The junior has gone 9-1 in her last ten singles matchups.  Rounding out the wins for the Stags was sophomore Emma Samson at No. 5 singles, who sat down Christie Greenberg, 6-4, 7-5.
 
The Stags (9-7, 5-1, MAAC) will face host two matches during their final weekend of regular season play.  On Saturday at 10AM, Fairfield will play their final conference opponent, Siena, followed by a match scheduled for noon on Sunday versus Stony Brook.
