STAMFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield University tennis team edged Sacred Heart late last night at the Stamford Indoor Courts, 4-3.  Two juniors, Monica Yajima and Sharissa Ryan went 2-0 on the day, helping the Stags improve to a 4-3 overall, 2-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) record.

The Stags began the day with a victory at No. 1 doubles by Yajima and Allison Radde who defeated the Pioneers' duo of Kalden/Olson.  In the two spot, the Fairfield pairing of Nikki Jackson/Victoria Pirrello battled but came up short, 8-4.  To clinch the point for the Stags, Sharissa Ryan and Emma Samson teamed up against Dubits/Rydzawski and came out on top, 8-4.

In singles play, Fairfield clinched two points in the one and two spots by Yajima and Ryan, respectively.  Yajima faced Kalden once more and in two sets, defeated her Sacred Heart opponent 6-2, 6-4.  Ryan had a similar result with a two set victory over Nicole Rydzawski, 6-4, 6-3.  The Stags dropped in the three, four, and five singles spots with Radde making her opponent go three sets.  The sophomore took on Katie DeRienzo taking the second of three sets, but unable to come out with the win, 6-2,2-6,6-2.  Freshman Maggie McLaughlin came out strong for the team at No. 6 singles.  McLaughling breezed by her opponent, Alyssa Migliorine, 6-1, 6-1.

The Stags (4-3, 2-0 MAAC) will travel to Hackensack, N.J. for their next dual against Fairleigh Dickinson on March 19 at 3pm.
