CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
- The Fairfield University field hockey team was edged by Harvard University, 4-3, in overtime this afternoon at Jordan Field. Seniors Christy Starsinic and Hillary Fitts each scored a goal for the Stags while sophomore Emily McCauley also tallied one.

Fairfield's Felicitas Heinen took the first shot of the game off a penalty corner by Emily Leo at 9:05. The shot was blocked, and play continued until Harvard answered with a goal by Rachael Rosenfeld off a deflection from a penalty corner at 15:36. The Stags took one more shot in the first half, off a penalty corner, but it was blocked by the Crimson's goalkeeper Jenn Hatfield. Harvard had a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Action picked up in the second half when Starsinic put Fairfield on the board at 48:45, by scoring off a deflection in front of the goal. About four minutes later, McCauley gave the Stags a 2-1 lead when she scored on a drive into the circle, off a pass from Julie de Paeuw.

Harvard answered by taking a 3-2 lead after back-to-back goals at 54:09 and 65:19. The first goal was scored by Caitlin Rea off a penalty corner while the second goal was scored by Marissa Balleza off a pass across the circle by Elizabeth Jacobson.

Fairfield continued to battle until Fitts scored off a penalty corner at 68:57. The goal tied the game, 3-3, and pushed it into overtime.

The Stags took the first two shots in overtime. At 83:47, Harvard's Jacobson scored the final goal of the game. The goal was scored off a saved shot in front of the goal, making the final score 4-3.

Goalkeeper Caitlin Bennett faced ten shots on the day, saving six, while Harvard's Hatfield tallied three saves.

The Stags will return home next weekend to host two America East conference opponents at University Field. Fairfield will face Maine on October 19 at 1pm, followed by UMass Lowell on October 20 at 1pm.
