STAMFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield women's tennis team opened their spring season with a tough opponent in St. John's University. The Stags fell to the Red Storm, 7-0.
The doubles point was clinched by the pairing of Pavlyuk and Arnaudovic whom defeated
Sharissa Ryan and
Allison Radde, 8-2. The first doubles match to finish was between
Nikki Jackson/
Victoria Pirrello and Mikhaylova/Washington, the Stags' duo dropped, 8-3.
Monica Yajima and
Carolina Koladzyn competed at No. 1 doubles, but abandoned the match once the doubles point was decided.
Yajima, Ryan, and Jackson in the one, three and five spots, fought hard in their first sets but came up short, 6-4. Yajima fell to Selakovis, 6-4, 6-2, while Radde was blanked in her second set to drop 6-4, 6-0. Jackson retired in the second set to Mikhaylova after a score of 6-4, 3-2.
In the two spot, Ryan was down by one set but threatened her opponent in the second. The junior ultimately fell to Washington, 6-2, 6-4. Rounding out the singles matches for the Stags was Pirrello at No. 4 and
Maggie McLaughlin at No. 6. Both dropped to their Red Storm opponent.
The Fairfield women's tennis team plays their next match Saturday, February 2 at 7pm in Stamford, Conn as they take on Providence College.
