Men's Soccer Hosts Yale University On Sunday After

Weekly Game Notes

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Sunday, September 9 when it hosts intrastate foe Yale University. Game time is slated for 1 pm.

The Stags will play their second straight home game when the Bulldogs come to campus, battling Boston College in the home opener last Monday night. The Eagles edged Fairfield by a 1-0 count with a goal in the 78th minute, a result which evened up the Stags overall record at 1-1. Fairfield opened the season two days prior with a 1-0 victory over Columbia University on the road.

Reco McLaren scored the game-winning goal against Columbia, his first Fairfield goal in his first game with the program. He came to Fairfield after playing two seasons at Herkimer Community College in New York. Michael O'Keeffe made three saves in the game for his 16th career shutout, a number which gave the goalkeeper second play outright for career shutouts. The senior needs just four more shutouts to tie the all-time school record, currently held by Roger Noll '01.

Yale entered the weekend with a 0-2 record but had a game against Colgate on its schedule for September 7. The Bulldogs dropped both of its previous two games by 2-0 scores, falling to Central Connecticut and Albany. The Fairfield game begins a three-game stretch against Connecticut opponents, playing at Quinnipiac on September 14 before hosting Sacred Heart on September 16.

Bobby Thalman has played every minute in the Yale goal this season, making 13 saves for a .765 save percentage. He made a season-high eight saves against Central Connecticut in the season opener.
