NEW YORK – Junior Monica Yajima advanced to the semifinals of singles play at the Columbia Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
 
In Flight A, Yajima advanced after defeating second-seeded Sol Eskenazi of Penn, 6-3, 3-2, ret. in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Yajima matched up against Columbia's Bianca Sanon. Yajima took the first set, 6-4, but was edged by Sanon, 6-4, 10-5, in the final two sets. In Friday's opening round, Yajima defeated Fordham's Bella Genkina, 6-3, 7-5.
 
In the back draw of Flight B, Allison Radde defeated Binghamton's Agatha Ambrozy, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
 
Fairfield returns to action September 28-30 at the Hofstra Invitational.
