FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University's
Anthony Hajjar was named the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Player of the Week on Tuesday. Hajjar hit .500 with two doubles, a home run, eight RBI, and struck out just once in six games for the
Sanford Mainers.
Hajjar, who was named to the NECBL All-Star team earlier this summer, is batting .352 for the Mainers with 27 RBI, 18 runs scored, 14 walks, seven doubles and two homers in 37 games played.
Hajjar is coming off a junior season at Fairfield in which he batted .322 with a team-high 36 RBI, 35 runs scored, and 65 hits. Entering his final season as a Stag, Hajjar stands eighth all-time at Fairfield in hits (171) and is poised to crack the top-10 in RBI, runs scored, and doubles.
The
New England Collegiate Baseball League is a wooden bat college summer league that fields teams in all six New England states. Partially funded by Major League Baseball, the NECBL started play in 1994 and has sent over 80 alumni to the Major Leagues.
