FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University baseball team fell to non-league foe Central Connecticut State University, 7-2, this afternoon at Alumni Diamond. Freshman
Sebastian Salvo went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Stags.
Fairfield (20-23) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as
Jack Giannini drew a one-out walk and came around to score on an RBI single by Salvo.
Central Connecticut (24-21) answered in the top of the third by pushing three runs across the plate. The Blue Devils extended their lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth on a Stags error.
The Stags cut the lead in half in the bottom of the seventh inning as rookie
Billy Zolga, who led off with a double, scored on an error. CCSU, however, broke the game open in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs for the 7-2 advantage.
Casey Brown (6-3) picked up the victory, going 7.0 innings and allowing just two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out five batters. Freshman
Jeremy Soule (3-3) took the loss for the Stags after allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits in 5.0 innings.
Ian Tresser, Chris Kalica, Andrew Gallagher, and
Mark Bordonaro each tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Stags.
Fairfield returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action this weekend, May 5-6, when Manhattan College visits Alumni Diamond.
