Sperry Earns ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie Of The We

Tristan Sperry made his first collegiate start for the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team on Saturday and today earned his first conference award. The freshman was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week after netting a career-best four goals in the Stags 12-10 win over Air Force.

A graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, Sperry nearly doubled his collegiate goal total with the four tallies on Saturday.  His first goal came with 3:54 to play in the first quarter and gave the Stags a 5-1 lead at the time.  When he struck next, the game was much tighter, with Air Force having rattled off three straight to close within one, 5-4.  Sperry scored consecutive goals, at 6:17 and 1:49, to jumpstart a 3-0 half ending run for the Stags, who took an 8-4 lead into the break. His final tally came 12 seconds into the fourth quarter and gave Fairfield a 10-6 advantage. Sperry also collected a career-best four ground balls in the game.

Sperry has played in every game this season and entered Saturday's contest with five goals to his credit.  His effort at Air Force moved him to fifth on the Stags roster for the year with nine tallies and his 14 total points Is seventh on the roster.  Sperry was efficient on Saturday, scoring his goals on just five shots.  He leads the team with .643 shot percentage, scoring 9-14 shots, and a .786 shots on goal percentage.

The Stags are 10-2 on the year and 3-1 in ECAC Lacrosse play and ranked #17 in the country. The victory at Air Force clinched a berth in the ECAC Championship, May 2-4.

Fairfield returns to action on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m. when it hosts #10/12 Denver on Lessing Field.
