JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –
The Fairfield University baseball team fell to the University of Akron, 8-4, this evening at John Sessions Stadium.
 
Freshman Dean Sadik went 3-for-4 with a run scored and one batted in while senior Tyler Wosleger had a pair of hits.
 
Both teams were scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Akron (4-11) pushed four runs across the plate. Fairfield (6-9) answered in the bottom of the seventh with a four-run inning of its own. With one out, Billy Zolga drew a walk and advanced to third on an error on a ball off the bat Jack Giannini. Sadik then singled up the middle to drive in Zolga and put the Stags on the board. With the bases loaded, Mike Maschi laid down a bunt and beat out the throw to plate Giannini. Wosleger singled home Sadik while a throwing error allowed Fairfield to score its fourth run of the stanza.
 
In the top of the eighth, Kurt Gamby gave Akron the 5-4 lead with a RBI double while Dan Burant made it 6-4 with a sacrifice fly. Akron added two more runs in the top of the ninth to come away with the win.
 
Andrew Brown (2-3) picked up the win for Akron, allowing four runs, one earned, on six hits with six strikeouts. Chris Kalica received the no-decision, going 5.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits. Kalica also fanned six batters. Reliever EJ Ashworth took the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits in an inning of work.
 
The Stags continue their stay at Jacksonville for the Wingate Invitational, March 17-18. Fairfield faces the host Dolphins on Saturday and will face Western Carolina and Jacksonville on Sunday.
