FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team (19-14 overall) will play in its third straight postseason tournament when it begins play in the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) on Wednesday, March 14. The Stags will host Yale University at the Webster Bank Arena, beginning at 7 pm. The winner will advance to the second round with the opponent and game date to be determined.

The Stags come off a run to the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament championship game where they fell to Loyola University by a 48-44 count. Fairfield advanced to the title game after defeating Rider University (65-62) in the quarterfinals and Iona College (85-75) in the semifinals. It marked Fairfield's second trip to the MAAC championship game in the last three years.

Several Fairfield student-athletes stood out in the three-game event, namely Rakim Sanders and Desmond Wade who both made the All-Tournament team. Sanders led his teammates in both scoring and rebounding, registering 17.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Wade was stellar with the ball in all three games, ending the tournament with 21 assists against only three turnovers. He also taoosed in 7.3 points per game and shot 42 percent from three-point range.

The Stags are making their second trip to the CIT, splitting a pair of games in the 2010 edition. Fairfield made national headlines when it erased a 27-point second-half deficit and rallied to beat George Mason University by a 101-96 count in overtime. It was the biggest comeback in Division I postseason history. Mike Evanovich set a school standard with nine three pointers, one of which tied the game with a second remaining in regulation. Fairfield fell in its next CIT match up, falling to Creighton on the road. The program will host its first CIT game in school history on Wednesday night.

Yale brings a 19-9 overall record into this game after posting a 9-5 mark in Ivy League play. The Bulldogs lost their final two regular season games on the road, coming up short against Princeton and Penn. Yale is led by All-Ivy first teamer Greg Mangano, who leads the team in several statistical categories. The senior averages team-highs in points (18.2 ppg) and rebounds (9.7 rpg). He is also the team's top shot blocker, rejecting just over two shots per game (64 total).

Reggie Willhite was named the Ivy League defensive player of the year as well as an All-Ivy selection following the season. He is the team's top shooter and play maker, making 48 percent of his field goal attempts and dishing off 111 assists in 28 games. Austin Morgan represents the team's top three-point shooter, netting 39 percent of his shots and tallying more than two three pointers per outing.
