The Fairfield University field hockey team will finish up their regular season tomorrow afternoon in Boston, Mass. as they face No. 15 Boston University. The Stags will then take the week to prepare for the America East Conference Championships which will start on Friday, November 2.
The Terriers currently hold the second place spot in the America East standings with a 10-6 overall records, and 3-1 in the league. In their last game, Boston University defeated No. 10 Northeastern in a double overtime, 4-3 victory. Leading the team to the win was junior midfielder Ella Gunson who tallied a hat trick, scoring three out the team's four goals. Gunson currently leads the Terriers with 20 points breaking down to seven goals and six assists, also with seven goals is senior defender Jacinda McLeod. Two goalkeepers, Jess Maroney and Valentina Cerda Eimbcke have split time at the net and combine for a goals against average of 1.49 and a save percentage of .775.
The Stags enter the weekend with their best overall record since joining the America East, 10-8 on the season and 1-3 in conference play, with two overtime losses against No. 19 New Hampshire and No. 25 Maine. In the 2011 season, Fairfield dropped to Boston University 3-2 in overtime.
Sophomore
Felicitas Heinen leads the team with 33 points, 14 goals and five assists followed by classmate
Lindsey Hatch with 18 points. Leading the team in assists with six, is sophomore defender
Valerie Buurma. Fourteen different student-athletes have tallied points this season, 12 of whom have scored. Freshmen forward
Kaitlyn Taddeo has become an offensive threat for the Stags in the second half of the season, assisting in each of Fairfield's last three games.
