WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team closed out their fall season at the ITA Regionals this weekend as four student-athletes,
Monica Yajima,
Sharissa Ryan,
Carolina Koladzyn, and
Allison Radde, took on opponents from all over the northeast.
The women were unable to come out with a win at the Regional, but the two duos who competed fought hard in their 9-7 losses. Yajima and Koladzyn dropped to Connecticut's Jen Learmonth and Abby McKeon while Radde and Ryan fell to Drexel's Zeynep Mafa and Marcela Rosales.
In singles play, Yajima had a first round bye moving her into the round of 64 where she faced Aiko Okuda from Dartmouth who had the momentum with one victory already behind her. The Big Green opponent ended Yajima's weekend with a 6-3, 6-3 match. Ryan was the only other Stag to compete in singles and after taking the first set, she was defeated by Fairleigh Dickinson's Egzana Morina, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
The women have now finished their fall season and will train throughout the winter months for their 2013 spring season which will open in February.
