PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Six student-athletes from the Fairfield University women's tennis team played in the New England Championships this weekend taking on opponents from Connecticut, Sacred Heart, Rhode Island, Bryant, Stone Hill, Hartford, and host Providence. As a team, Fairfield came in seventh place while the Friars took the title with a total of 46 points.
In Flight 1, sophomore
Allison Radde came back from a first round, three-set loss to Connecticut's Weinberg, 6-1, 3-6, 10-7. She went 2-1 in the tournament with a win by default and a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Paradiso from Stone Hill.
Also with a few wins on the weekend was freshman Margaret McLaughlin, who similar to Radde, dropped a well fought three-set match in the opening round but followed up with two triumphs. In her second match of the tournament, McLaughlin defeated Hartford's Galik without giving up a game and finished with a win over Wojciak from Rhode Island, 7-5, 6-1.
The women's tennis team will finish their fall schedule this coming weekend at the ITA Regional in West Point, N.Y. The tournament will start on October 19.
