After nearly two months off from regular season competition, the Stags swimming and diving teams resume dual meet action against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Rider University on January 21 at 12pm in the RecPlex.
Fairfield vs. Rider: The Broncs and the Stags will square off in a dual meet for the first time since October 27, 2003 when Rider swept the Stags in Fairfield.
Rider Corner: The Broncs swept Loyola University Maryland in a MAAC dual meet on January 14 in Rider's final home meet of the season. For the Rider men, junior Johnny Funk won the 100 backstroke (52.05), the 200 backstroke (1:54.63), and the 200 individual medley (1:55.96) and junior Brian Molloy won the 100 free (47.64), the 200 free (1:44.41) and the 50 free (21.79). For the Rider women, sophomore Melanie Leonhard won the 1,000 free (10:38.59) and the 500 free (5:12.53). Freshman Morgan Kandrac won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.95) and the 200 breaststroke (2:30.44) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay.
Last Time Out: The Stags spent 10 days in Hawaii for their annual winter training trip. The swimmers competed against Holy Cross while the divers competed at the Rainbow Invitational against divers from the University of Hawaii, Drury, Western Kentucky, and Wisconsin.
Looking Ahead: The Stags close out the month by hosting Iona College at 1pm on January 28. After the meet, the teams and their fans are invited to The Levee for a Friends of Fairfield Swimming & Diving event. Fairfield's final meet before MAAC Championships will be on February 4 as NJIT visits at 1pm. The 2012 MAAC Championships will be held February 16-18 at Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.
