Lauren Reilly knocked home a rebound off the cross bar a dozen minutes into the first-half and Kelly Boudreau recorded a clean sheet as the Fairfield University women's soccer team notched its first win of the year, 1-0, over host Hofstra University Friday afternoon.
Shannon Fay started the scoring play as she came down the left side and crossed the ball to Nikki Stanton who hit the ball off the bar. Reilly was able to corrall the rebound and put the ball home from 10-yards out for the only goal of the game.
Hofstra pressed the Stags throughout the game, out shooting Fairfield 16-6, but the Stags defense was up to the task. Boudreau stopped a season-high seven saves on the day, with big stops coming in each period. As the first-half was winding down Boudreau denied Hofstra's Lauren Green, who was in alone. Midway through the second-half Amber Stobbs got inside the box and had what looked like a goal, but Boudreau was able to tip it over the cross bar.
Fairfield played solid team defense as well, weathering 16 shots by an opponent for the second consecutive game. Spenser Allaway helped maintain the shutout in the 20th minute as she headed Courtney Breen's shot away off a Hofstra corner kick.

The clean sheet is the 27th of Boudreau's career, extending her career mark.
The victory is the Stags second over the Pride all-time, 2-3, with the other victory coming during the team's second varsity season, 1993.The Stags had 22 players see action during the game, surpassing the 21 that took the pitch in the season opener at Boston College.
Fairfield was scheduled to travel to Amherst, Mass. on Sunday, but that game has been moved to Tuesday afternoon due to the arrival of Hurricane Irene.
