Fairfield, winners of four out of the last six, plays its final league road series this weekend at Canisius. With six league games left, the Stags are currently tied for fourth in the league and are vying for a berth in the MAAC Tournament.
On The Web: Canisius will be providing Live Stats for all three games this weekend. On Saturday, the two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 12pm and finish out the series on May 15 at noon.
Fairfield (18-23; 9-9 MAAC) vs. Canisius (20-27; 8-8 MAAC): Canisius has taken 10 of the last 12 meetings from Fairfield, including a 2-1 series win last season. The two teams slugged it out last year, combining for 64 runs over three games at Alumni Diamond. Anthony Hajjar went 6-for-13 in that series with four runs and three RBI. Senior Carmine DeVito is a career .444 hitter against Canisius with seven runs scored and eight RBI while classmate Chris Horning is a career .360 hitter against the Griffs. Senior Tucker Nathans has driven in seven runs and scored eight times during his career against Canisius. The Stags are 21-18 all-time against Canisius.
Canisius Corner: The Griffs have dropped five of their last six contests. Canisius is led by Sean Jamieson who is batting .364 with 52 runs scored and 47 RBI. Jamieson also has stolen 21 bases in 23 attempts. Drew Pettit and Brian Burton are also hitting over .300 for the Griffs. Pettit is batting .359 with 36 RBI while Burton is hitting .319 with 40 RBI and 32 runs scored. On the hill, Shane Davis (4-5) has a 3.53 ERA with 44 strikeouts and has five complete games under his belt. Billy Martin (4-3) has a 4.92 ERA with three complete games.
Fairfield Among the MAAC Leaders: Fairfield boasts the best defense in the league with .974 fielding percentage. The Stags are also second in doubles plays, having turned 39 this season. In addition, the Stags are third in ERA (4.16) and fourth opponent batting average against (.260). Offensively, Fairfield is second in triples (9) and third in stolen bases (60).
Individual Stags Among the MAAC Leaders: On the mound, right hander Scott Gussaroff leads the MAAC in strikeouts (74) while Scott Warwick is tied for fifth with 55. Sophomore Mark Bordonaro is tied for fourth in saves (4) and third in appearances (19). Offensively, seniors Chris Horning and Tucker Nathans are tied for fifth in doubles (14). Nathans also leads the MAAC in triples (3). Junior Larry Cornelia is tied for fifth in stolen bases (15).
Looking Ahead: Fairfield closes out the regular season, May 19-20, when Saint Peter's visits Alumni Diamond. The Stags will honor its senior class on Friday, May 20 at 12pm.
