Softball Picks Up 6-1 Win Over Quinnipiac

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team posted its third straight win with a 6-1 decision over Quinnipiac University at Alumni  Softball Field. The Stags have won six of their eight games since returning from their spring trip to California.

Pitcher Sarah Minice dominated the day by scattering six hits and striking out nine hitters to earn her sixth win of the season. Quinnipiac managed one run which came in the sixth inning, and had the bases loaded with one out. Minice struck out the next two hitters to stoip the rally.

Fairfield scored a pair of runs in the first, fourth, and sixth innings, the highlight coming in the sixth inning off freshman Kimi Kurata's home run over the left field fence. The Stags jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning despite getting just one hit. Kristen Filicia started the game with a trip to first base after being hit by a pitch. She went to second with a stolen base and came all the way home when the throw was kicked into left center field.

The second run scored when Lauren Liseth walked and went to third base following Kristina Lingo's single. Allie Wiganed grounded to shortstop, but Liseth was able to come home for a 2-0 lead.

The Stags pushed the lead to 4-0 with another pair of runs in the fourth inning. Wigand walked to start the inning and yielded to Emily Orr who came into the game as a pinch runner. Rae Ball grounded out but the play sent Orr to second base. Orr took third base after another ground out, and came home following Laura Carta's single to left field. Carta eventually scored when Kurata lined a single to right center field.

Kurata finished the game with two hits and reached base a third time when she was hit by a pitch.
