FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team fell at the hands of the Marist Red Foxes this afternoon on Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The loss brings the Stags back to an even 8-8 overall, and 2-1 in conference play, while the Red Foxes improved to 3-0 in the MAAC.

The Stags started the day out with strong doubles play winning two of the three matches. Fairfield duo of Joe Michalisin and Erik Kremheller defeated Marist's Matt Himmelsbach and Joris Van Eck 8-4 in the No. 1 spot. Dennis Zlobinsky and Rob Ferrante were also successful in doubles earning the point for the Stags in the second spot as they topped Nicola Pisecky and Landon Greene in a well-played 9-8(5) match. At No. 3 doubles, Dan Sauter and Bjorn Merinder were unable to hold off Lorenzo Rossi and Will Reznek and fell in a tight 9-8(6) match.

Erik Kremheller was the only Stag to win his singles match. The sophomore entered the match with his third MAAC Player of the Week honor, and continued his solid play by defeating Matt Himmelsbach in a hard fought three-set match, 5-7, 6-2, 10-4, at fourth singles. Michalisin also took Marist's Joris Van Eck into three sets after winning the first, but was unable to prevail and was defeated 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the No. 2 spot. At first singles, Sauter was topped by Lorenzo Rossi 6-2, 6-4, while Zlobinsky fell to Nicolas Pisecky, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 position. Ferrante and Reece Breault rounded out the scoring in singles play for the Stags in the fifth and sixth spot. Ferrante was defeated by Landon Greene 6-4, 6-1, and Will Reznik was victorious over Breault, 6-2, 6-2.

The men's tennis team continues their full week of play hosting Niagara in a conference match-up on April 9. First serve is set for 10am on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
