Zlobinsky Clinches Match Over Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team topped cross-town foe Sacred Heart, 5-2 Monday afternoon on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The Stags are now 8-7 overall heading into Wednesday's match against conference rival Marist.
Freshman Dennis Zlobinsky sealed the win for the Stags at third singles with his victory over Chris Ujkic, 7-6(3), 6-4. At No. 1 singles, Joe Michalisin fell in a hard fought three-set match to Kiril Kasyonov, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Dan Sauter handled Mike Syer 6-1, 6-2 at second singles, and Erik Kremheller defeated Cole Conrad in a decisive 6-0, 6-1 match in the No. 4 spot. Rob Ferrante fell to Chad Sullo in a close 7-5, 7-6(5) match, while Reece Breault rounded out singles play with his win over Jacob Miller, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, Michalisin and Kremheller defeated Sacred Heart's Kiril Kasyonov and Chadd Sullo 8-4 in the No. 1 spot. At second doubles, Zlobinsky and Ferrante topped Mike Syer and Chris Ujkic 8-5, but Sauter and Bjorn Merinder were unable to hold off Jacob Miller and Jihal Shah in the third spot, falling, 8-6.
The Stags continue conference play when they host Marist at 3pm on April 6.
