Baseball Falls To Stony Brook 9-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University baseball team dropped a non-league contest to Stony Brook University, 9-0, this afternoon at Alumni Diamond. Senior Tucker Nathans tied Fairfield's career doubles record during the course of the game.

The Stony Brook (28-9) pitching staff combined for a four-hit shutout of the Stags (14-20). Evan Stecko-Haley notched his first win of the season for the Seawolves, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six batters.

The Seawolves took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a single by Stephen Marino. Stony Brook added three more runs in the top of the third to push the lead to 4-0. They scored again in the fifth and led 7-0 after the sixth inning. Stony Brook tallied its two final runs in the eighth inning.

Fairfield got its first hit of the day in the third inning on a Jack Giannini single through the left side. In the fourth inning, Nathans roped a double down the left field line with one out. The double was Nathans' 58th of his career, tying the Stags career record set by Mike Pike in 1996. Nathans is already Fairfield's career hits leader with 243.

Sophomore Anthony Hajjar and senior Justin Nusblatt had the other two hits for the Stags.

Junior Gavin McCullough took the loss, allowing four runs in four innings of work.

Fairfield returns to action on Saturday, April 30 when it hosts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Siena College in a doubleheader beginning at 12pm at Alumni Diamond. The Stags and the Saints are currently tied for fourth place in the league with identical 6-6 records.
