Men's Tennis Opens Play At MAAC Championships Wedn

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis is geared up for the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships as they have earned the No. 2 seed after going 5-1 in MAAC action during the regular season. The Stags will take on No. 3 Niagara in the MAAC Championship Semifinal on Wednesday, April 20 at 12pm at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Fairfield, which has advanced to the MAAC Championship Final in each of the last three years, is more than ready to take on Niagara. The Stags topped the Purple Eagles 6-1 on April 9 on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.

Sophomore Erik Kremheller went a perfect 5-0 MAAC singles record during the regular season, while junior Joe Michalisin and freshmen Reece Breault and Dennis Zlobinsky all finished 4-1. Kremheller also leads the Stags with 19 overall victories and has won six matches in a row, and Dan Sauter and Zlobinsky follow with 17 of their own.

Fairfield duo of Michalisin and Kremheller also enter the Championships on a seven match win streak and have won 22 matches in doubles play.
