Baseball Takes On CCSU In Three Game Series

After getting rained out on Wednesday, the Stags, winners of four-straight, will return to action on April 15 against Central Connecticut State. Friday's 3pm game at Alumni Diamond is the first of three games over three days between the two squads. The two teams return to Alumni Diamond on April 16 with first pitch now slated for 12pm due to impending rain in the area on Saturday. Fairfield and CCSU will finish out the series on Sunday at 1pm in New Britain.

Fairfield (11-15) vs. CCSU (14-12-1): Central Connecticut took both meetings from the Stags last season to increase their winning streak to five games over Fairfield. Both games last year were slugfests, with CCSU out-scoring Fairfield, 37-16. For the Stags, Tucker Nathans hit .364 with three RBI and two runs scored in that series. Fairfield is 27-40-1 all-time against the Blue Devils with the Stags' last victory coming in April 2007.

CCSU Corner: The Blue Devils, who are in action against Stony Brook on Thursday afternoon, are riding a four-game winning streak. The defending NEC Champions are led by Mitch Wells who has a .387 batting average in addition to 27 RBI. Jake Matuszak is batting .378 with a team-high 22 runs scored.

An Evening of Fairfield Baseball Stories – The John Slosar Years: Fairfield University will be celebrating the three-decade career of Head Coach John Slosar on Saturday, April 16 with 'An Evening Of Fairfield Baseball Stories.' Slosar, who will be retiring at the conclusion of the 2011 season, has spent the last 27 seasons as the Stags head coach. He also was an assistant coach for Fairfield before taking over as skipper in 1985. The cost of the dinner is $50 per person and all those interested in attending can register at www.fairfield.edu/baseballstories.

Looking Ahead: Fairfield continues non-league play on April 19 against Big East foe UConn. The Stags return to MAAC action April 23 and April 25 at Rider.
