Men's Tennis Opens Conference Play At Saint Peter'

 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team began conference play yesterday at Saint Peter's College. The Stags topped the Peacocks 6-1 to improve 5-2 on the season.
 

The successful day started with impressive doubles play. Joe Michalisin and Erik Kremheller paired up and set the tone for the remainder of the match when they defeated Edwin Huisman and Alex Frakes 8-4 at first doubles. Freshmen pair of Dennis Zlobinsky and Reece Breault finished next with an 8-4 victory over Chris Frakes and Luccas Coutinho. The dominating doubles play finished with Dan Sauter and Bjorn Merinder as they took care of Sergey Igel and Robert Forai 8-4 as well. 

 
 

Zlobinsky kicked off singles play at the No. 3 position with a dominating 6-4, 6-0 performance against Edwin Huisman. Kremheller followed with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Alex Frakes at fourth singles. Ferrante blanked Chris Frakes in the first set 6-0, to go on and capture the second 7-6(3) at No. 5 singles. Michalisin battled it out with Robert Forai at No. 2 singles, and came out on top in a tough three-set match, 7-6(4), 4-6, 10-4. Saint Peter's lone point of the match came when Sergey Igel defeated Dan Sauter at first singles 4-6, 6-3, 6-6(4-0) ret. Breault rounded out singles play for the Stags with a decisive win over Luccas Coutinho 6-2, 6-2.

 

The Stags return to action March 12 when they host Delaware. Match time is set for 5pm at Stamford Indoor.
