Baseball Opens Play At Alumni Diamond On Tuesday

 

After spending its first 18 games on the road, Fairfield opens play at Alumni Diamond on March 29 against Fordham University at 3:30pm.

Fairfield (7-11; 1-2 MAAC) vs. Fordham (14-9; 2-1 A-10): The Rams have taken four of the last five meetings from the Stags including a 13-7 come-from-behind win last season. In that game, Anthony Hajjar went 3-for-5 while Tucker Nathans went 1-for-2 on the day with a double, two walks, two runs scored and an RBI. Fairfield is 22-24 all-time against Fordham with the Stags last victory coming on April 1, 2009.

Stags In Home Openers: The Stags won their opening game at Alumni Diamond last season with a 3-2 10-inning victory over Quinnipiac to snap a string of six-straight losses in home openers.

Fairfield Facts: Fairfield split last Saturday's MAAC doubleheader at Marist, but fell in the series finale, 5-2, to the Red Foxes. Nathans, who has made 151 consecutive starts, is batting .301 with 14 RBI and 14 runs scored to lead the Stags. Right fielder Tyler Wosleger has driven in 13 runs while shortstop Larry Cornelia leads the Stags with seven stolen bases.

Fordham Facts: The Rams are coming of a pair of victories against La Salle last weekend. Fordham has three players batting over .300 this season in Ryan Lee (.378), Joe Russo (.357), and Nick Martinez (.325). Martinez has scored a team-best 18 runs while Lee and Russo have crossed the plate 16 times. Chris Walked leads the team with 20 RBI.

Looking Ahead: Fairfield returns to the road this weekend for a MAAC series at Manhattan, April 2-3. The Stags then travel to Army on April 5 before heading back to Alumni Diamond for three games against Niagara, April 9-10.
