FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The men's and women's tennis match scheduled at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts for Wednesday March 16 has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 17due to the impending rain. The women will begin play at 1 pm with singles matches, while the men start at 3 pm with their doubles matches.
The women's tennis team enters the match 4-4 overall and are coming off a decisive 5-2 victory over the University at Albany Great Danes. Freshmen
Victoria Pirrello (Staten Island, N.Y.) enters the match on a five-match win streak in singles play, while
Sharissa Ryan (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) has won her last four singles match-ups.
UConn is currently 4-5 overall and most recently coming off a 3-1 stint in Puerto Rico over their spring break. The Huskies topped Bryant, Valparaiso, and Minnesota State – Mankato during the trip and fell to Virginia Tech. Last season, the Stags lost to the non-conference foe 6-1.
The Fairfield University men's tennis is now 5-3 overall, after dropping a hard fought match to Delaware this past weekend.
Erik Kremheller (Riverside, Conn.) and
Dennis Zlobinsky (Greenvale, N.Y.) lead the way entering Thursday's match-up with two-match win streaks in singles play. Stag duo of
Dan Sauter (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and
Bjorn Merinder (Andover, Mass.) head into the match winning their last four doubles matches in the No. 3 spot.
UConn men's tennis team is 5-2 so far this season, dropping matches to Army, and Sacred Heart University. The Stags fell to the Huskies 5-2 last season.
Thursday's match marks the first match of the spring season on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
