Softball Falls To Maine In Final Game Of NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Lauren Liseth hit a pair of home runs but it was not enough for the Stags softball team to overcome the University of Maine as the Stags dropped a 7-6 decision. The Stags finished the Wolfpack Classic with a 3-2 record which gives the team a 5-5 overall record.

Kali Burnham opened the scoring with a solo home run that gave the Bears a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Stags tied the game in the fourth inning when Liseth hit the first of her two homers. Fairfield gained the lead one inning later when Kristina Lingo and Alli Wigand posted RBI singles in a three-run inning that made the score 4-1 in the Stags favor.

Maine answered with four runs in its half of the fifth inning, the big blow being a three-run home run by Kristin Allen that pushed the Bears back in front at 5-4. Kristen Filicia tied the game in Fairfield's next at-bat, a single that sent home the team's fifth run.

Jennifer Eberhardt gave Maine the lead for good with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, giving the team a 7-5 advantage. Fairfield made an effort to tie the score, but Liseth's solo shot in the top of the seventh was all that the Stags could muster.
