Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –
The Fairfield University baseball team wrapped up its stay at Plumeri Park with a 4-3 victory over the College of William & Mary in the series finale between the two schools. Several Stags had multi-hit days, including senior Chris Horning and junior Ryan Furbeck who each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Stags (2-2) began the scoring in the top of the first inning as Furbeck trotted home on a sacrifice fly by Larry Cornelia. The Tribe (2-7) tied it up in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI single by Ryan Lindemuth. Fairfield responded in the top of the third as senior Tucker Nathans singled down the right field line to send home Furbeck and Horning and make the score 3-1.

Leading 3-2 in the top of the fifth, Nathans added an insurance run for the Stags with a sacrifice fly which scored Horning. In the bottom of the seventh, the Tribe pulled within 4-3. With the bases loaded and no outs, the Stags conceded the run to turn the double play. Sophomore reliever Kyle Capaldo  then was able to strike out Tadd Bower to end the inning. Junior Mark Skrapits pitched a nearly perfect eighth and ninth inning, walking just one batter, for his first collegiate save in his first collegiate appearance on the hill.

Sophomore starter Mark Bordonaro picked up the win, after scattering three runs on six hits with four strikeouts in six innings. The Tribe's Brett Kohler took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Junior Tyler Wosleger went 3-for-4 at the plate while Nathans finished the day 1-for-2 with three RBI for the Stags.

Fairfield continues action next weekend when it travels to another Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponent, Old Dominion, for four games beginning on March 4.
