EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team has now won four of their last five matches as they shut-out the University of Hartford, 7-0 last night. The win brings the Stags to 4-1 overall.
In doubles play, Hartford's Aneil Bhalla and Josh Isaacson topped Joe Michalisin and Erik Kremheller in a close 8-6 match at first doubles. The Hawks were unable to prevail in any other match the rest of the night. Freshmen duo of Dennis Zlobinsky and Reece Breault defeated Eric Floum and Marco Neves 8-1 at No. 2 doubles while Dan Sauter paired with Bjorn Merinder to take care of Fil Miletic and Bogdan Nedelcu 8-3 at third doubles.
The Stags went undefeated in singles play. Sauter battled it out with Hartford's Bhalla and came out on top in a three-set match, 7-6(4), 3-6, 10-2 at first singles. At No. 2 singles, Michalisin defeated Isaacson 6-3, 6-2. After falling behind in the first set, Zlobinsky came back to beat Neves 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 at No. 3 singles.
The Hawks were able to win just four games against Kremheller, Breault, and
R.J. Mirabile at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively. Kremheller handled Floum 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles while Breault defeated Nedelcu 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot. Freshman
R.J. Mirabile took care of Edgardo Ureta 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.
The Fairfield University men's tennis team returns to action when they host non-conference foe St. Johns on March 4 at Stamford Indoor. The match time is set for 7pm.
