STAMFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team upended visiting NJIT Friday night at Stamford Indoor.
The match was decided in singles play because of time. Sophomore
Erik Kremheller (Greenwich, Conn.) clinched the win for the Stags with a solid performance at No. 4 singles. Kremheller defeated NJIT's Dan Salomon 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.
Junior
Dan Sauter (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) took care of Petr Rousar, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while
Joe Michalisin (Melville, N.Y.) handled Ike Niro 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles
. Freshman Dennis Zlobinsky (Greenvale, N.Y.) battled it out with Joao Tasca and came out victories 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. At No. 5 singles, freshman
R.J. Mirable (Fort Washington, Pa.) fell to Martin Cedegvist 6-3, 6-4. Freshman
Reece Breault (Binningen, Switzerland) split the first two sets with Bryan Keelan, but fell in a hard fought third set, 6-7, 6-3, 9-11 in the number six spot.
The win brings the Stags to 3-1 on the season. The Fairfield men's tennis team returns to action February 25 when they travel to East Hartford to take on the University of Hartford Hawks at 7pm.
