FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's and women's tennis team will host NJIT this Saturday February 12 at Stamford Indoor Tennis Club. The match time is set for 7pm.
Both the men's and women's tennis team are 2-1 so far this season. The women won their only dual match in the fall by blanking Manhattan, 6-0, and also upended Fordham 5-2 in their home opener. This weekend's match will conclude a three-match stint at Stamford for the Stags.
After taking care of Fordham in the fall, the men fell to Army in their season opener, but recovered, and came out victorious in a thrilling late-night match against visiting Stony Brook last weekend. The Stags beat the Seawolves 4-3.
The men's team fell in a close 4-3 match to NJIT last season, while the women have not competed against the Highlanders since the 2006 season where they fell 5-2 in the match.
The NJIT men's team is 2-1 going into Saturday with victories over Rider, 7-0, and Fordham, 6-1. The Highlanders fell to Cornell in their season opener 0-7. The women's tennis team is 1-1 thus far this season with a 4-3 win over Fordham in the fall, and a season opening 1-6 loss to UMass.
Earlier this week, the Fairfield University women's tennis team was picked first in the Coaches' Preseason Poll for the third-straight season, while the men were tabbed second for the second consecutive year.
