Game Notes

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The men's basketball heads to the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. to take on Old Dominion University, the fourth game of the Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase. The game will be televised on SportsNet New York (SNY) live. Game time is scheduled for 9 pm.

The Stags are coming off a pair of wins at Niagara and Canisius, the second straight year that they swept the Buffalo-based schools. More importantly, the victories gave Fairfield a 2-0 start in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. However, the team returns to non-conference play on Friday night, the team's sixth straight game away from its home facility.

Rakim Sanders earned the MAAC co-player of the week award after averaging a double-double in the two MAAC games last weekend. He tallied 17.5 points and 11 rebounds per game over the two games, giving him a double-double in three of his last four games. The senior is currently ranked fifth in the MAAC for both scoring (18.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg).

Derek Needham comes off his best scoring output of the young season with 19 points against Canisius. He has reached double figures in three straight games, and is shooting better than 40 percent overall and from three point range over those three games. He is one of four Fairfield student-athletes scoring in double figures, tossing in 10.0 point per contest. He joins Sanders, Ryan Olander (11.8 ppg), and Maurice Barrow (10.2 ppg).

Old Dominion brings a 5-3 overall record into the game after winning its last two games against East Carolina (63-58) and Northeastern (69-59). The Monarchs have three student-athletes averaging better than 10 points per game, namely Nick Wright (12.6 ppg), Kent Bazemore (12.3 ppg), and Chris Cooper (11.0 ppg). Cooper is just short of completing a double-double, averaging 9.6 rebounds per game.
