Men's Basketball Closes Out Old Spice Classic Agai

Game Notes

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will close out the Old Spice Classic by playing Indiana State University on Sunday afternoon. The game will begin at 4:30 pm and will be televised on ESPN2. The Stags own a 1-1 record in the tournament, defeating Arizona State on Thursday night but falling short against the University of Dayton on Friday.

Fairfield received another fine effort from senior Rakim Sanders, who posted his first double-double as a Stag with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Olander, who suffered through foul trouble throughout the Dayton game, still managed to score 11 points for the Stags only other double-digit scoring effort.

Sunday's game will be the third of five straight road games, plus a contest against Old Dominion at the MassMutual Center in Springfield tacked on to the run. Fairfield is considered the home team in the Old Dominion game which is also part of a quadruple header that includes Siena and UMass at 7 pm followed by the Fairfield-ODU contest.

Indiana State, the only team in the Old Spice Classic to play in last year's NCAA tournament, brings a 5-1 record into the game. The Sycamores opened the tournament with a win over Texas Tech before dropping a winners bracket game to the University of Minnesota on Friday. The loss to the Golden Gophers halted the Sycamores' five-game win streak to open the season.

The team is led by Carl Richard, one of three double-digit scorers for the Sycamores. He brings a team-high scoring average of 10.7 points per game into Sunday's meeting. Jordan Printy is next in line with a 10.2 scoring average, while Dwayne Lathan averages 10 points every forty minutes. Richard and Lathan are tied for the team lead with 5.2 rebounds per outing.
