Men's Lacrosse Wraps Fall Schedule With Alumni Gam

The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team will wrap-up its fall schedule this weekend as it hosts its annual alumni game and then heads to Yale University for two scrimmages.

"We wrap up our fall season this weekend as we welcome our alumni back to campus this Saturday for our annual alumni game," said head coach Andy Copelan, "which always proves to be entertaining.  The following day, we'll head up to Yale to compete against two very solid teams and ultimately gauge our progress."

The alumni game will be played on Alumni Field Saturday at 3 p.m., following the team's final fall practice.  In the annual event, the attending alumni will match-up for a scrimmage, with current players and families in attendance.  Saturday evening will find the team at Race Brook Country Club as the squad celebrates its 2011 season and honors the Class of 2011 one final time,

Fairfield will be playing Yale and Sacred Heart in fall ball games of the season on Sunday in New Haven, Conn.  The Stags take on the Bulldogs at 1 p.m., and then play the Pioneers at 3 p.m.  Both games will be played at Yale's Reese Field.

"If you ask the coaches, fall ball went too quick," said Copelan.  "Something tells me if you asked our players the answer may be different, but in general I am proud of our group for the way they have competed, persevered and remained committed to improvement and process."

Fairfield is a member of the ECAC Lacrosse League and posted an 8-8 mark last season, its third consecutive season with at least eight victories.  The Stags upset second-seeded Loyola in the inaugural ECAC Lacrosse League Tournament semifinal and then fell just short against host, and NCAA final four participant Denver, in the title game.
