FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team will host No. 16 Maine this Saturday and follow up on Sunday with a nonconference game against Yale University.

Maine had its 11 game win streak snapped with a 2-1 loss to Boston University this past week.  The Black Bears have tallied 71 goals this season, allowing just 21 against them.  Time in the net has been split between three players, with senior Brittany Fleck getting the majority of the time, posting a 1.86 goals against average and a .651 save percentage.  Kelly Newton is the points leader for Maine, registering 40 points off 10 goals and 20 assists. Senior midfielder Stephanie Gardiner places second with 12 goals and six assists.  Most recently, the Black Bears beat Holy Cross on their home field 5-1.

Last year, the Stags dropped a 6-2 decision to Maine, allowing four goals in the first half.

Yale is currently 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the Ivy League.  Most recently, the Bulldogs defeated No. 19 Northwestern 3-2.  The team has outshot their opponents 208-164, with the most shots taken by Erin Carter who is also the point leader for the team.  Carter has tallied 19 points with eight goals and three assists.  Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Cain has 65 saves on the season with a goal against average of 2.48.

The Bulldogs came out on top last year against the Stags in a close 2-1 game with Marit Westenberg scoring the Stags' goal.

The Stags are in their last month of play, with three conference games left to determine their fate before the America East Tournament which starts on November 5.
