NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. –
The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell at Iona College this afternoon in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual meet. The Stags men's team (4-4) fell 141-96 while the women (3-4) lost 145-98.
 
Junior Michelle Yoshida (Kaneohe, Hawaii) won two individual events and one relay event for the Stags. She captured the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.39 seconds and the 100y freestyle in a time of 53.24 seconds. She was also the lead leg of the 400y medley relay that posted a winning time of 4:04.08. Freshman Suzy Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.), sophomore Cacky Keating (Chatham, N.J.) and freshman Moe Osmulski (Rumson, N.J.) also swam on that winning relay.
 
Lawlor won the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:31.38. Keating captured the 200y butterfly in a time of 2:11.73 and was the runner-up in the 200y IM with a time of 2:16.30. Osmulski, meanwhile, was third in the 200y IM by clocking a 2:16.45 and third in the 500y freestyle in 5:19.85.
 
Senior Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) was the runner-up in the 1000y freestyle in a time of 11:06.34 while sophomore Amanda Gilsey (Eatontown, N.J.) was fourth in 11:29.40. Merz was also fourth in the 500y free with a time of 5:26.99. In the 200y freestyle, freshman Emily Pedrick (New Milford, N.J.) took third with a time of 2:02.87 while sophomore Caitlin Moran (West Henrietta, N.Y.) was fourth in 2:04.57. In the 200y backstroke, Emily Kelly (Haddon Heights, N.J.) picked up third place points by finishing in 2:20.08.
 
Sophomore Paul Bimmler (Reading, Mass.) won the 100y freestyle with a time of 48.80 seconds. Bimmler also placed second in the 50y free with a time of 22.25 seconds.
 
Junior Brian Friedlander (River Edge, N.J.) had a pair of second-place finishes for the Stags. He was the runner-up in the 200y IM, finishing in a time of 2:02.54. He was also second in the 200y breaststroke, clocking a 2:12.91, marking the first dual meet this season in which he did not capture the event. The Gaels' Chris Yacobacci won with a time of 2:10.51.
 
In the 200y butterfly, junior Andrew Robinson (Manalapan, N.J.) placed second by finishing in 2:04.65 while Stefan Toi (Newtown, Conn.) was third in 2:05.23. Freshman Cody Parker (Ocean Twp., N.J.) took third in the 200y freestyle with a personal best of 1:50.45. He was also third in the 500y freestyle with a time of 5:03.00. Freshman Kevin Greener (Chatham, N.J.) was the runner-up in the 1000y freestyle with a personal best of 10:19.79. He was also fourth in the 500y freestyle with a time of 5:04.45. In the 200y back, Kenny Muti (Walpole, Mass.) took third with a time of 2:07.35.
 
The Stags swept the men's diving events. On the 1-meter, sophomore Ryan Krebs (East Williston, N.Y.) posted the winning score of 210.75, good for a personal best. He was followed by freshman Brien Bates (Wellesley, Mass.), who had a personal best of 184.27, and senior Brett Carisio (Cheshire, Conn.), who had a mark of 156.72. On the 3-meter, Bates posted a personal best of 182.45 to win the event. Carisio was next with a mark of 163.41 while Krebs had a score of 138.15.
 
Rookie Abigail Sanders (Falls Church, Va.) had a solid day on the boards for the women. She was the runner-up on the 3-meter with a personal best of 185.85 and was third on the 1-meter with a score of 151.35. Sophomore Kim Pettit (Westwood, Mass.) had two personal bests on the day, finishing with a 125.10 on the 1-meter and a 137.22 on the 3-meter.
 
Fairfield will close out the dual meet season on February 5 at Siena. The 2011 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 17-19 in Buffalo, N.Y.
