Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season At Army

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The men's tennis team opens their 2011 spring season by traveling to West Point, N.Y., Friday January 28, to take on out of conference foe Army. It is the opening match for both teams. The Stags blanked Fordham, 7-0, earlier this fall in their only dual match. The men's tennis team had a very impressive fall in preparation to avenge last year's 1-6 loss to the Black Knights.
Junior Dan Sauter (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) heads into the season opener with 99 combined victories. Sauter is soon to join current teammates Joe Michalisin (Melville, N.Y.) (109), and Rob Ferrante (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) (115), as well as first year assistant coach, and 2010 Fairfield grad Ryan Berthod who leads with 142 combined victories. ]

The season opener will also mark the spring debut for the Stags' four talented freshmen, Reece Breault (Binningen, Switzerland), Bjorn Merinder (Andover, Mass), R.J. Mirabile (Fort Washington, Pa.), and Dennis Zlobinsky (Greenvale, N.Y.) who all had considerable playing time this fall.
The match time is set for 4pm. The Stags open at home February 4 against Stony Brook at 8 pm at the Stamford Indoor Tennis Club..
