Stags Upset Bid Falls Short In Overtime At #22 Geo

Box Score
The Fairfield University women's soccer team gave 22nd-ranked Georgetown University its toughest test of the season, but fell short, 2-1, in overtime. The loss drops the Stags to 3-1 on the season, while the Hoyas improve to 6-0-0.
The Hoyas scored the first goal of the season against the Stags on a penalty kick by Ingrid Wells at 16:47. It was the first of two penalty kicks awarded to Georgetown in the first-half of play, with Kelly Boudreau turning away Samantha Baker's effort in the 39th minute of play. Fairfield transitioned that stop into an offensive chance which Shannon Fay capitalized on 59 seconds later. On the left side of the box Fay deflected the ball into the back of the net, for her first career goal, to tie the score.
Baker would provide the Hoyas with the decisive tally, with just seconds to play in the first overtime period.
Boudreau made a season-high nine saves on the afternoon, playing the entire 100 minutes in net for the Stags.  Elizabeth Hanna earned the win in net for Georgetown, making one save in playing the entire contest.
Georgetown out shot Fairfield 24-4 on the afternoon, and had an 8-1 edge in corner kick chances.
Fairfield becomes the first team this season to hold the Hoyas to less than three goals in a game, and are the only team to force extra time, or stay within a goal. Georgetown entered the game averaging nearly five goals per game over its first five games, while allowing only one goal to an opponent.
The final 3:30 of regulation provided chances for both sides. The Hoyas earned a corner kick at 86:27, which was turned away by the Stags, who were then whistled offsides twice within 58 seconds. The Hoyas had a chance to put the decisive goal in the back of the net with 22 seconds to play, but Bourdeau was able to fend off the Kelly D'Ambrisi shot.
The Stags return home for a pair of games this weekend beginning Friday night with the squad's second consecutive nationally ranked opponent, #6 Boston College at 7 p.m. Sunday's game will be versus UMass, and begins at 1 p.m.
