Box Score
Box Score

The Fairfield University women's soccer team posted its third consecutive shutout to open the year with a 1-0 win over American University at the D.C. Invitational, hosted by Georgetown University. The Stags improve to 3-0 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 0-5.
Casey Frobey broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute of play, her first tally of the season and the eighth career game-winning tally. Frobey headed a cross from Lauren Reilly, who earned her first career assist, into the back of the net.
The three consecutive shutouts, 270 minutes, is a program-record for the Stags, who opened the 1992 season – the program's first varsity campaign – with back-to-back shutouts. Fairfield opens a season 3-0 for the first time since 2001, and for the fifth time in program history. No Stags team has ever started a year 4-0-0, with the team's best four-game start coming in 1994 at 3-0-1.
Kelly Boudreau made a season-high four saves in posting her third clean sheet of the season. The victory moves her into fourth place alone on the Stags all-time wins list with 25, as she is 3-0-0 on the year.
Frobey moved past Ahna Johnson into sixth place on the Stags all-time points list with 72. She moved into a sixth-place tie in game-winning tallies and has 28 career goals, one shy of Johnson for fifth on the goals list.
The game was evenly matched in the box score, with the Stags holding a 9-8 edge in shots and a 7-6 edge in corner kicks. Both squads managed to put four shots on net in the contest. American committed one additional foul, 6-5.
The Stags conclude play at the D.C. Invitational on Monday when they take on the 22nd ranked Georgetown Hoyas. The Hoyas opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over George Mason to improve to 5-0-0 on the season. Georgetown is the first ranked opponent for the Stags this season and the first since Fairfield opened the 2009 season against 23rd ranked Boston College. Fairfield welcomes the Eagles, which was ranked 6th in the nation in the August 31 coaches poll, to Lessing Field on Friday, September 10 at 7 p.m.
