FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team will host Saint Joseph's University on Sunday, October 3, the second of two home games this weekend. As part of the Saint Joseph game, Fairfield will designate the game as Stags Play 4 The Cure as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Prior to the game, there will be two youth games with Darien 7th/8th playing Trumbull 7th/8th followed by Darien 8th taking on Wilton 8th. The first game begins at 10:30 am followed by the second contest at 11:30 am. Fairfield University is part of the Fairfield Country Field Hockey Association Play 4 Pink Jamboree.
The Stags will offer a 50/50 raffle during the game, and also offer fans an opportunity to make a donation or join the field hockey pledge challenge. The pledge challenge offers individuals a chance to give a set amount for each goal scored by the Stags during the month of October, or for those of a defensive mindset, a pledge for each save by the goalkeepers.
"I am very happy to participate in this event," Head Coach
Jackie Kane said. "Our team has been part of other off-campus activities during Breast Cancer Awareness month. The student-athletes are looking forward to hosting an event on campus this year."
All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink to the game.
The Stags will also play their America East opener on Saturday, October 2 when they host the University at Albany for a 2 pm game. Albany enters the weekend ranked 17th in the nation, moving up two spots from the previous week's poll.
